If you’re looking for a receipt scanning app, Fetch Rewards is one of the best designed and easiest to use. Want to know more? Read on!
(And yes, in this post I’m going to try to make Fetch happen)
So what is Fetch Rewards?
It’s an app for your phone that lets you get cash back from your grocery recipts. Available on both Android and iOS, you just have to make an account to get started.
How is it different from other receipt scanning apps?
The big difference is that you don’t need to select deals you’re interested in ahead of time. Anybody who’s found out after the fact that they could’ve gotten a big rebate from ibotta if they had only clipped a deal (raises hand) will appreciate the difference.
Don’t get me wrong, ibotta is great and I use it all the time, but I really like that Fetch got rid of the most frustrating part of using that app.
I also think the interface feels good and easy to use. It’s a breeze to upload your pics and only takes a few seconds.
How does the cash back work?
When your receipt has an product that matches a Fetch offer you receive the points listed for the offer. Even if you don’t have anything that matches you can still get smaller amounts of points for buying from specific participating brands, many of which are common.
Most of the offers give you some amount back from the purchase price, but there are occasional totally free offers too.
There’s also a once a day lottery spin for scanning a receipt, which mostly works out to small amounts of points but is a fun bonus.
How does the point redemption work?
Points can be redeemed through the rewards tab for a variety of gift cards, including Amazon and Virtual Visas. 1000 points is roughly $1, though the points amounts required to buy a gift card can differ according to the brand.
Easy to use and popular gift cards can cost more than $1 per 1000 points, while more specialty stores often offer savings.
The cashout minimum varies by brand, but $3 and $5 are very common.
Are there any drawbacks? Does another receipt scanning app do some things better?
Fetch generally has a smaller selection than ibotta does. Going along with that, there are also fewer 100% rebates. I think that the rebates also pay a bit less on average.
In conclusion
I really appreciate the ease of use Fetch has. Because there’s a smaller number of offers and everything is in a list on the main page I can just scroll down to see if something catches my eye. It’s also easy to make a quick habit of scanning your receipt after a trip and the occasional hits will add up to some gift cards.
That said, using the app like that likely depends on the amount of groceries you buy. If you buy groceries for multiple people each week you’ll probably be able to get some of the offers without actively looking for them. If you don’t buy that much you might need to go offer hunting to make the app worthwhile.
While ibotta is more extensive Fetch is a great receipt scanning app for anyone willing to look for offers, or who buys enough to make it mostly automatic.
